Argos Art - Apple Wallpapers

(NL) Apple Wallpapers is een visueel onderzoek naar interface-esthetiek, tijd en gewenning. Het project markeert veertig jaar werken met de Macintosh.
In die periode veranderde het scherm van instrument naar leefruimte.
Met de introductie van OS X werd het besturingssysteem een zorgvuldig vormgegeven omgeving. De bijbehorende wallpapers fungeerden als stil decor voor miljoenen schermen wereldwijd.

In dit project zijn deze achtergronden ontdaan van hun functionele rol.
Door vervaging, herhaling en systematische bewerking verdwijnen landschap en detail. Wat resteert zijn kleur, beweging en structuur.

Het werk vormt een archief van 3230 beelden waarin interface-beelden ons kijken hebben gevormd.
Binnen GIS/WIS markeert Apple Wallpapers een tussenpunt: archieven die nog niet weten dat ze archief zijn.

(EN) Apple Wallpapers is a visual investigation into interface aesthetics, time, and habituation. The project marks forty years of working with the Macintosh.
During this period, the screen shifted from instrument to lived environment.
With the introduction of OS X, the operating system became a carefully designed space.
Its wallpapers functioned as silent backdrops for millions of screens worldwide.

In this project, these backgrounds are stripped of their original function.
Through blurring, repetition, and systematic processing, landscape and detail dissolve.
What remains are color, movement, and structure.

The work forms an archive of 3,230 images revealing how interface imagery shaped perception.
Within GIS/WIS, Apple Wallpapers marks a threshold: archives not yet aware of being archives.
